One of the Rittenhouse Square’s newer works, Gardener’s Cottage Gates was commissioned by the Friends of Rittenhouse Square as a memorial to longtime board member and resident Patty Hogan. The bronze relief gates feature birds, squirrels, a dog, and other animals that might be seen around the Square.

The gates are artist Eric Berg’s first relief sculpture and are installed on the Gardener’s Cottage in the southwest corner of the park. Berg is known for his animal sculptures in the Philadelphia area, including Massa the gorilla at the Philadelphia Zoo, Mario the Magnificent dragon at Drexel University, and Philbert the pig at Reading Terminal Market.
