Call for Pedicab Operators for Fireflies

This September, the Association for Public Art (aPA) in Philadelphia presents a major new site-specific work by internationally-acclaimed artist Cai Guo-Qiang. Commissioned by aPA with Fung Collaboratives on the occasion of the centennial of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Cai Guo-Qiang: Fireflies invites the public to actively experience the grand boulevard as a nocturnal dreamscape conjured from the languorous movements of bobbing clusters of glowing handcrafted Chinese lanterns and groups of customized pedal vehicles. For more information on Fireflies visit www.associationforpublicart.org/fireflies

The Association for Public Art has partnered with Velo-Park to handle all pedicab operations. Velo-Park is currently seeking high-energy, responsible individuals with strong communication skills and experience in tourism, hospitality, or customer service to participate in the project. Knowledge about Philadelphia, including area restaurants and attractions, is helpful. Pedicab Operators for Fireflies will operate the pedicabs Thursdays through Sundays, from Thursday, September 14 to Sunday, October 8, 2017, with the main task of providing pedicab service in a safe & responsible manner.

Requirements: Must be 18 years old & have a valid driver’s license, the ability to physically operate a pedicab for 4 hours nightly & a functioning cell phone. Operators will be paid $75/shift; shifts are tentatively scheduled to run 5:30PM-10:30PM each night of the run (Thursdays through Sundays, from Thursday, September 14 to Sunday, October 8, 2017). Velo-Park provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment. Interested parties please contact Ronn at info@velo-park.com.

Please Note: Pedicab training sessions begin upon hiring. In addition to the regular run of the project, the artist will be designing a special opening performance for September 14. To prepare for this special performance, pedicab operators will need to participate in 2 paid rehearsals on August 11 & 12 and a paid dress rehearsal tentatively scheduled for August 14.
