Join us at the Free Library to hear Philadelphia-based artist Nicolo Gentile discuss his first large-scale public artwork, Bar None, on view in nearby Maja Park through the Association for Public Art’s Art on the Parkway program. Gentile’s installation reimagines the Parkway as a living archive shaped not by monuments, but by collective action – transforming steel barricades into a procession of memory and light, etched with moments of protest, pride, and public gathering. The talk will explore the archival research that informed the artwork, including materials from the Free Library’s collections, and will feature a brief screening of historic Parkway footage from Temple University Library’s Special Collections. Admission is free with registration and includes light refreshments.
Presented by the Association for Public Art (aPA) in partnership with the Parkway Central Free Library. Support provided by the Dina Wind Art Foundation.
